We Audited Our Own AI Visibility — Here’s What We Found

July 22, 2026 · 5 min read

We help brands become the answer AI gives. So we ran our own brand through the same audit. The score was 27 out of 100.
This is not a marketing exercise where we share a flattering number. This is the real result, the real gaps, and the real fix plan — published because we think transparency is more useful than polish.
What we tested
We scored digitalauthority.in across five dimensions that determine whether an AI answer engine — ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Google’s AI Overviews — will name, cite, or recommend a brand when a buyer asks a relevant question.
The dimensions, and what each one measures:
Technical and AI crawler access (14/20): Can AI crawlers actually reach and read your pages? Our robots.txt allows all agents, content is server-rendered, sitemap is live. But here is the problem: zero indexed pages in Google. If Google cannot find you, AI Overviews and Perplexity cannot either — they both use web retrieval.
Content and answerability (6/20): When an AI needs to answer a question in your space, do you have anything it can quote? Our homepage copy is well-structured, but the blog was empty. No service pages, no case studies, no FAQ content. Nothing for a model to cite.
Schema and structured data (3/15): Does your site tell AI models who you are in machine-readable format? We had no Organization schema, no Local Business markup, no FAQ schema. The structured-data layer was effectively blank.
Platform presence (2/20): Do you exist across the sources AI models cross-reference? LinkedIn and Quora links in the footer were dead placeholders pointing to “#”. No company page, no directory listings, no founder profile tied to the brand.
Authority and citations (2/25): Has anyone else ever mentioned you? Zero third-party references anywhere. And here is the part that actually keeps us up at night: the entity space for “Digital Authority” is completely owned by Digital Authority Partners, a Chicago-based agency at digitalauthority.me. Every AI model that hears “Digital Authority” resolves it to them, not us.
The single biggest threat: entity collision
This deserves its own section because it is the finding that surprised us most — and the one most brands do not check for.
When we queried ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google for “Digital Authority,” every result pointed to the Chicago agency. Not because they are doing anything wrong — they have been building that entity for years. But it means that until we establish “Digital Authority Labs” as a distinctly different entity, AI models will either conflate us or ignore us.
The fix is not a code change. It is a sustained entity-separation campaign: consistent full-name usage everywhere, directory listings, founder bylines, and enough content volume that models learn we are a different entity.
What we are fixing (and the order)
Based on the audit, we built a 30-day plan. The priority order matters — some fixes unblock others:
This week: Google Search Console verification and sitemap submission (unblocks everything else). Meta descriptions site-wide (currently blank). Social profile creation with real links. Organization and LocalBusiness schema markup.
This month: Seven to eight published field notes, each structured as a question-first article with at least one citable statistic. An about page and a services page to give AI models entity context. Directory listings on Google Business Profile, Crunchbase, Clutch, and GoodFirms — every one using the full name “Digital Authority Labs.”
This quarter: A pillar piece with original data from our 24 D2C brand audits. Five to ten third-party citations through guest posts, podcast appearances, and Quora answers. A full re-audit targeting 50 or higher.
Why we are publishing this
Three reasons.
First, it would be dishonest to sell AI visibility audits while hiding our own score. If a brand considering working with us wants to know whether we practice what we pitch, this post is the answer.
Second, the 27-to-50 journey is itself useful content. Most brands in our space have never thought about their AI visibility score. Watching us fix ours — with the specific steps, in the specific order — is more valuable than a generic “how to improve your AI SEO” article.
Third, we will re-audit at the end of 30 days and publish the follow-up. If the score moves, the methodology works. If it does not, we will explain why. Either way, you learn something.
Check your own score
We built a free AI visibility checker that runs your brand against a competitor in real time. It queries ChatGPT with buyer-style questions and scores who gets cited and how prominently.

It takes 20 seconds and shows the gap. The score is free. The fixes come on a call.

This is the first post in the Digital Authority Labs field notes — a series on how AI search actually works, tested on real brands. Published from Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.
